Bow Capping
The Rob Shaw 5.5 design boat has a plumb bow. Goran was in charge on constructing the bow capping and he made it twise. Goran made a female mould of the bow shape with the measurements from a AutoCAD drawing. Thin strips of foam was cut and set in the mould and glued together with resin. We found some errors making the first piece because we never beveled the strips of foam when we glued the up so the inside face was tight and smooth while the outside face had gaps. The second piece was made with beveled edges in the same mould and held in place with lofting nails. It came out very good and sanded smooth. The next step was to cut back the topsides to where the bow capping should be and glued in and coved. The hull was almost complete for glassing.
A good description of the bow capping. Do you know why is is round?
